Facebook & other companies

Google has shut down automatic access to its Gmail contacts and other information to companies like Facebook. Only companies who share data back can access it. this is showing the growing rivalry between the 2 internet giants!

An open-source rival to facebook, diaspora, has opened its site to the public for the first time. The site is priding itself on its high security, something that facebook has had issues with. This could mean that the people who do not agree with facebooks security may well change over to this new social networking site.

Inundated with demand, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. plans to stop taking orders for shares of Facebook Inc.on Thursday, and has told some would-be investors to expect just a small fraction of the shares they requested, according to people familiar with the situation.
This shows how popular facebook is and shows how people are investing it in her future!

MySpace’s chief executive, Mike Jones, has confirmed that the company is letting go 500 employees around the world and stripping back its international operation. This is due to its rivalry with facebook, and its lack in popularity and success since facebook came along, having since changed itself from a 'social networking site' to a 'social entertainment destination'. Does this show to us that facebook is gaining too much power? and becoming a monopoly in social networking sites?

More details have emerged about the forthcoming ‘Facebook phone’; apparently it’s an Android-based phone called the INQ Cloud Touch. Does this also show that facebook is gaining too much power? spreading itself into other markets aswell as social networking sites!

The famous compay that created Barbie and Ken dolls have gone onto facebook in order to recieve feedback and advice on what to change about their dolls. This shows how having so mnay people in one place, with them all being so easy to contact can have huge advantages on companies who are willing to take advantage of it
